To: WL From: "Kathy E. Gill" Subject: Day Nine : Postscript Cc: Bcc: PE, keg X-Attachments: How could I forget this?? I ate at the Village Inn Pancake House - and sat next to a table where there was an older couple, with the lady breathing oxygen. Made me think of my Aunt Barbara, who must carry an O2 tank around with her everywhere she goes. Anyway, the couple leaves right behind me. I figure they're parked in handicapped - no they are in the large van immediately to my left. The lady approaches and says, "at least you're wearing proper clothes!" She then tells me that there was a story in today's paper about a guy riding a bicycle cross-country for cancer. (For a fraction of a second, I'm afraid a motorcyclist has been injured in the PE ride.) I tell her what I'm doing - and she tells me that she has cancer. I think she means lung cancer (she is on O2) ... she has moved her from California since being diagnosed - then she motions and I realize she has *breast* cancer. She cannot have surgery because of her medical condition (I'm thinking wildly - does she also have lung cancer?) but she is going to try radiation. She thanks me for what I'm doing and wishes me god speed and a safe journey home. I sit on the bike and cry. Kathy
