Minnesota Trip : Day 2, Wednesday 30 June 2010

We get off to a slow-ish start after sampling the motel’s enhanced continental breakfast. After a gorgeous drive through Glacier National Park on the Going To The Sun Road (west-to-east) we aim towards North Dakota.

I’m looking for a Radio Shack because I’ve left my iPhone USB cable at home (I have at least three of them) and I can’t charge the phone. This is a big oops. (I don’t think about WalMart as being a probable source – they do sell Apple products and iPods. Eventually I buy a cable at a Target in North Dakota.) It’s a good thing I also brought along the baby Nikon camera!

Kalispell, MT to Dickinson, ND with a stop in Glendive, MT to seek shelter (at the local Dairy Queen) from a major thunderstorm. There are no rooms to be had for miles, and it’s not because of the storm. It’s because of oil field overflow — employees that need to be put up in motels rather than on the fields. We'd love to know what these buildings are! They appear to be powered by a solar panel.

As we head south towards I-94 and Glendive, we see a storm brewing. Eventually, we'll hear the thunderstorm warning: 70 mph wind, hail, sky-to-land lightning strikes. Then we'll drive into the storm.
