The Perfect Vehicle

Kathy’s Bikes

I started riding while in graduate school, when my then-beau Ralph Semprevio bought a 1969 BMW R69S to restore. I learned to shift and turn in Virginia state parks, but I dropped her on the cylinder head one-too-many times for Ralph’s proprietary interest in the bike. LOL! Inseam challenged I am. (I cannot imagine that I actually kick-started the bike, however.)

Flash forward a couple of decades, when I bought my first bike, a BMW (naturally). There are now three bikes and a scooter in the stable, plus Mike’s two Harley’s (both 1999 Softails). We haven’t decided if we’ll ever buy a newer bike due to the intricate computerization endemic to all modern internal combustion engines.

2000 M900 – Ducati Monster – May 2000

1990 Honda TransAlp – August 2006

1981 R65 - August 1998

The first purchase, August 1998. Third owner. It’s our “utility” bike (it just works) but it should have engine rebuild scheduled; bike has 120K miles. Subject of this website’s First Year Essay.

1967 Honda CT90 - April 2000

My truly vintage bike; acquired from a friend/student in April 2000; scooter has 1200 miles and needs new shoes (again).
